Louisiana Tech is looking to add several offensive lineman in the 2014 class and has the first one of the five to seven in the bag.
That first offensive lineman is Michael Rodriguez (La Porte, Texas). This week, he told BleedTechBlue.com he was considering committing when Tech offered him this week, it didn't take much longer.
"Sunday at the camp, when I first got there, it looked like a pretty nice area and that they are well centered around their football team and I like that," Rodriguez said. "When I got there the coaches treated me really well and I didn't want to pass it up I thought it was a good opportunity for me."
Rodriguez plays tight end at his high school but could project as an offensive tackle after a probable redshirt season his first year in Ruston.
"After my redshirt year, I could range from 250-270 whatever my body wants and how ever hard I work."
Even though he expects more offers to come, Rodriguez says he wants to be a Bulldog.
"I'm sure I'll get more offers down the road but I would like to be a Bulldog in college."
Standing 6-foot-5 is impressive for someone who just finished his junior year of high school and even more impressive considering he is only 16 years old.
"I think I can get taller because I'm only 16 so I think I have plenty of time to grow."
Rodriguez says he's excited about the opportunity to continue to do something he loves doing.
"I think it's a great feeling because when I think about there's as many kids who want this opportunity and I'm one of the few that get the opportunity to play something I love."
Rodriguez is the second commitment of the day for Tech after quarterback Price Wilson committed earlier in the day. He also marks the seventh commitment for the Bulldogs for 2014.
