With lots of family in Shreveport, Howard Wilson said he felt at home during his visit to Ruston and Louisiana Tech Friday. So much so, that he called the Tech coaches and committed to the Bulldogs on his way home.
"I have family in Shreveport and I go visit them a lot for family reunions and stuff," Wilson said. "Louisiana Tech felt like home because I'm close to my family and [the coaches] just made me feel comfortable."
His family in Shreveport was proud of him and even some were in tears when he told them the news he committed to Tech.
"They were proud of me. All the women in the family they started crying and they were just happy for me and proud of me and happy that I'm going to college."
Last season, Wilson played linebacker but transition to cornerback during the spring.
"At first [the transition] was a little difficult but as an athlete I can play anything. So, I just got out there and played and I got comfortable with it and I feel good about and glad I made that transition because it paid off.
During the spring Tech saw a couple of Wilson's spring scrimmages and as Wilson tells it he was "a little sluggish" in the first one but after the second one they offered him on the spot.
Louisiana Tech and SMU offered and Houston was really close with interest from Oklahoma State, Iowa, Houston, Utah and Utah State before Wilson committed to Tech and he says he is "pretty much set and I'm going to be a Bulldog."
"It didn't hit me until I left [that I wanted to commit] because I was taking everything in when I was visiting but once I put on the jersey and went on the field everything came to me. Then on the ride back to Dallas I just felt, so I called coach right when I felt I told him I wanted to be a Bulldog."
